7 Ways to Play, the Socially Distanced Way
Southwest Florida offers a wide variety of attractions outdoors which allows you to have fun while playing it safe and maintaining social distancing. We’ve compiled a list of some of our fave outdoor activities; some on the water, some on land, ALL guaranteed to be a blast!
With the amazing Florida weather, the beach is always a good idea; it’s a great way to relax and enjoy nature. But if you’re more of the adventurous type and you just CANNOT sit still, then what’s better than getting active on the water by renting a Jet Ski! Marco Island Water Sports offers wave runners, parasailing, paddleboarding, and even banana boat rides. They have two locations: Marco Island and Naples right on the beach! A wave runner rental for 30-60 mins starts at $110. So get on and zoom through the turquoise waters of Marco Island!
If you’re on Fort Myers Beach, then check out Adventure Water Sports for on-the-water rentals. They offer wave runners, kayaks, and even Hobie Wave Sailboats! If you’d like to see some dolphins, they also have a guided dolphin tour. Hop on your wave runner and follow the experienced guide as they lead you on this hour and a half excursion while you explore Estero Island’s wildlife, estuaries, mangrove forests, and back bays. Then you can get back to the beach and relax under the umbrella (they rent those too!) Adventure Water Sports has all the fun and convenience for the perfect beach day!
We all know nothing beats a Southwest Florida sunset. Picture this, catching the best view of the sun setting over the water while you feel the breeze on your skin and sip on a refreshing beverage– sounds like a dream right? Well, here that dream can become reality. Pure Florida, located in Naples offers a Sunset Cruise departing at 7:15 pm daily. This sunset tour is perfect for a romantic date, a night out with your friends, or a fun adventure for the entire family. If you’re lucky, you’ll even be able to enjoy the occasional dolphins sailing alongside the boat. Aside from their Sunset and Sightseeing Tours, Pure Florida offers multiple activities such as jet boat thrill rides, fishing, and boat rentals.
Adventures on Land
Another way to adventure in nature is by visiting one of the many amazing local parks and gardens!
If you enjoy taking long walks and bird watching, or get excited about the possibility of encountering a raccoon or otters, then the Six Mile Cypress Slough is where you need to be.
The preserve is over 3,500 acres of wetland ecosystem with a Boardwalk trail and Interpretive Center (the center is currently closed but the boardwalks remain open.) A myriad of animals like otters, alligators, turtles, wading birds, and more live at the Slough year-round. Others, like migrating birds and butterflies, use the Slough as a feeding area or a winter home. Admission is free with paid parking and parking is only $1/hour with a limit of 5 hours.
Further south, in the Everglades, you can find a classic Florida attraction… Airboats! Captain Mitch’s from Everglades Private Airboat Tours will take you on a THRILLING Everglades city airboat ride through the Florida Everglades Swamplands. Like a true Floridian, fly through the swamplands and experience an ecosystem unlike any other in the world. Located right by Big Cypress National Preserve and Everglades National Park, Capt. Mitch’s Airboat Tours are just minutes from Naples, Marco Island, and Fort Myers and are a great fun, socially distanced activity for the whole family!
Maybe nature isn’t your thing, but you can still enjoy the outdoors through Mini Golf. Probably Floridian’s third favorite pastime (after fishing and actual golf!), mini-golf is a fun attraction for any age. Tropical Breeze Fun Park, located in Cape Coral is an 18-hole mini-golf course that is beautifully landscaped and features cascading waterfalls, adventurous holes, and the signature world’s longest mini golf hole! They are currently open daily from 10 AM – 10 PM and are following all CDC guidelines to make it safe and the best experience for your family.
Another great mini-golfing location, Golf Safari is located in Bonita Springs. They offer putters, challenging mini-golf among life-sized jungle animals, tropical gardens, tiki huts, and misting waterfalls! Golf Safari is also open 7 days a week and offers specials on Wednesdays!
