August 19, 2016 Dining

Gone are the days where eating healthy was considered boring and distasteful!

Chefs have began to experiment and create some of the most amazing healthy dishes which are often vegan or vegetarian. Eating healthy has become all the rage and Vegan and Vegetarian Cafes have been established all around SWFL! This is great news for all the health nuts (or like myself… wannabe health nut) looking to find all the great local spots where I can try a superfood smoothie or maybe even the vegetarian curry! I’ve compiled a list of some of THE BEST Vegan and Vegetarian Cafes where you can eat healthy in SWFL.

If you’re in the Fort Myers area you can stop by Happiness Healthy Cafe. They offer panini, soups, vegetarian curry and more! They also have organic smoothies, teas and juices. Their healthy Indian cuisine and the freshness of their ingredients have been recognized by the Fort Myers community, and get this- They deliver!!! Check out their website to order online! Happiness Healthy Cafe is located at 3332 Cleveland Ave, Fort Myers, FL 33901; Hours: Mon-Sat: 10 AM- 6 PM.

Down Cleveland Ave in a plaza located on Boycott Blvd you will find Chef Brooke’s Natural Cafe. This was one of the first places that I ever saw in this area that was a Natural Cafe. I was immediately intrigued. It’s website says “Organic Comfort Food” and thats all I needed to read before I was sold! Chef Brooke’s Natural Cafe offers a variety of natural/healthy food items including sandwiches, wraps, salads, and soups and you can forget the superfood smoothies! Most of the food is vegan or vegetarian and take out is available. She also bakes custom cakes and offers cooking classes! Chef Brooke’s Cafe is located at 1850 Boycott Drive, Unit A, Fort Myers, FL 33907. Hours: 9 AM – 4 PM. Closed on Sundays.

Another great, cozy spot located right in the heart of Downtown Fort Myers is Green Cup Cafe. Green Cup Cafe offers vegan, paleo and vegetarian options. Their ingredients are locally sourced and sustainably grown, making them flavorful and nutritional. They are known for their great organic smoothies. They also offer local coffee, salads, wraps, vegan desserts and açaí bowls. If you’re ever in the area, take a break from all the hustle and bustle and enjoy a nice cup of coffee paired with a healthy snack! Green Cup is located at 1412 Dean St. Suite 100, Fort Myers, FL 33901. Hours: Mon.- Fri: 8 AM – 9 PM, Sat: 9 AM – 9 PM and Sun: 9 AM – 8 PM.

In the Cape you’ll only find one vegetarian cafe and it’s the only one you’ll need. Café You located in Cape Coral has a variety of healthy great tasting food, and you definitely cannot miss out on having a cup of their espresso! This Australian coffee shop serves simple natural food that tastes AMAZING. My all time favorite from there is the avocado smash, it is your choice of toast with smashed avocado topped with cherry tomatoes and chili flakes. Pair that with one of their beautiful looking lattes and you’re good to go! For the babies they have a specialty “babyccino” which is just frothed milk so the youngin’s can join in on the fun as well! They serve breakfast and lunch all day. Café You is located at 1423 SE 10th St. Unit 1, Cape Coral, FL 33990. Hours: Mon. – Wed.: 8 AM- 3:30 PM, Thurs. – Fri.: 8 AM – 8 PM and Saturday from 8 AM- 3:30 PM.

Last but not least, if you’re out on Sanibel or Captiva Islands, there is also a healthy vegetarian cafe for you to try! The island’s favorite health cafe is the Sanibel Sprout. The Sanibel Sprout offers organic, vegan and gluten-free food options, as well as a juice bar. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and they even have delivery available! Does it get better than that?! Their main food items are soups, sandwiches, desserts and pasta dishes. Definitely try the zucchini pesto pasta when you stop by! The Sanibel Sprout is located at 2463 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel 33957. Hours: Mon – Sat: 10 AM – 7 PM.
