Fun Before Back to School!

August 4, 2017 Activities

It’s back to school season and summer is winding down…..or is it?! We’re so busy with the school supply lists and new projects at work, we often forget about the wonderful things going on where we live. We need to take a break at the end of the week, and regroup. South West Florida always has live music to dance to, great food to try at new restaurants, or a game to win at a festival. Keep your Saturdays opened on your calendar and mark these dates!

If you haven’t heard of GreenMarket, you’re missing out! Every Saturday, you can find locally grown produce and other cultivated foods from the South West Florida area. Live entertainment is always happening, whether it’s a live cooking tutorial by local chefs or local musicians jamming out. Visit the Lee County Alliance for the Arts located on McGregor Blvd in Fort Myers. With a 10 acre campus, you will be sure to find fresh, seasonal, and unique crops cultivated by your local farmers!

Saturday, August 12th, come down to Fishermen’s Village in Punta Gorda for Tikifest 2017. Along with the wonderful boutiques and tasty restaurants, this marina will be hosting their 2nd annual Tikifest between 12pm -4 pm. Listen to the ukuleles and steel drums and dance with the hula dancers! Activities include painting coconuts and tiki carvings, a hawaiin lei giveaway and specials featuring tropical clothing. Dress up for a photo op and take the children tiki bowling. Don’t forget, free admission for all this tropical fun!

Looking for a beautiful Saturday sunset? Fort Myers Beach holds their weekly Sunset Celebration in Times Square every Friday and Saturday, bringing everyone on the island together for games, music, and of course, a beautiful sunset. Jugglers, balloon artists, and other street performers will capture your attention while you listen to local music from 5pm-10pm. Stroll the boardwalk with a hand to hold or buy a delicious ice cream cone for the kiddies from one of the amazing homemade ice cream parlors. What better way to end an eventful Saturday, than a famous Florida sunset with the family.

Between work and school, the week is a busy time for all of us. So this week, plan a perfect Saturday, to unwind and have a great adventure in South West Florida.
